SleepDo I have a sleep problem? What is polysomnography?
Polysomnography is a technology and technique of staging and studying sleep that measures physiological variables such as brain waves (electroencephalography, or EEG), muscle tone (electromyography, or EMG), leg movement, heart function (electrocardiography, ECG) and extending, depending on the patient's need, to respiratory measures and even penile tumescence (erections) in men. Polysomnography is often undertaken overnight at a sleep laboratory, either in a university as part of a sleep research program or in some hospitals.
