Do you need Help with Sleep? Looking for Natural Sleep Help? One of the most important building blocks of vitality resides in the healing power of sleep, an amazing life-sustaining system where natural therapies can make immediate and dramatic changes to well-being.

Sleep achieves the deepest levels of metabolic calm, allowing the body to re-align everything from basic body chemistry through to thoughts and emotions.

One-third of world population are dangerously sleep-deprived, making them vulnerable to illnesses ranging from digestive problems and depression through to potentially fatal diseases caused by compromised immune function. Since 1910, the amount of sleep we get has steadily decreased by a massive 22 per cent, dropping from nine hours to just seven hours per night.

This decade has now been recognised as the sleep decade within the scientific circles. We no longer can afford to view any ailment without integrating the science of sleep medicine. Dr Demente, one of the founding fathers of sleep medicine claims that up to 70% of diseases known to mankind are related to sleep disorders.

What is a Good Night Sleep Really All About?

Sleep is food for the brain, get enough of it and get it when you need it .We need sleep to keep us happy, healthy and alert. While you sleep, your body and brain work together to prepare you for a new day. That is why it is so important to give yourself time to sleep.

Sleep is an integral part of human existence, closely tied in with cosmic clock of internal and external circadian rhythm and we spend around one third of our total lives doing it.

When we don’t sleep in sync with this life giving pulse , we alter our biological rhythm that control hormones and neurotransmitters determining appetite, fertility, mental and physical health. When we sleep less then we are supposed to, Melatonin is not the only hormone affected.

sleep-deprivationThere are at least ten different hormones as well as many neurotransmitters in the brain that go sideways when you do not get enough sleep. Melatonin is just the tip of the iceberg. It is all the other shifts that changes appetite, fertility mental , structural and cardiac health.

The consequence of sleep loss is bigger then falling sleep behind wheels, suffering depression, have chronic fatigue, heart disease, diabetics and poor learning and cognitive skills, It is death, according to sleep scientist around the world.

Why most people do not talk about sleep and hormones, posture, Chinese medicine, Yoga, trauma , chiropractic, Kinesiology, nutritional medicine , meditation and mental attitude? Most likely because the research is buried separately in 7 or 8 different disciplines in academia. It is like 10 blind men trying to describe the elephant based on what they are touching. Each discipline holds part of the puzzle and there is no magic bullet when it comes to treating sleep related disorders.

What Happens If  I Don’t Get Enough Sleep?

Few realize every hour of lost sleep goes on their body’s tab as if they were using a life-long credit card. This is a ‘sleeping time bomb’ in terms of health. Every hour of lost sleep goes on your body’s tab as if you’re using a life-long credit card. This is called ‘sleep debt’.  Sleep debt builds over years, months or days, gradually robbing people of their health. After oxygen and water, sleep is your most vital need, even more important than food.

If someone is completely deprived of sleep, they can die within two weeks. Many blame chronic exhaustion on illness or depression, yet simple changes to sleeping habits can transform their lives.

Since 1910, the amount of sleep we get has steadily decreased by a massive 22 per cent, dropping from nine hours to just seven hours per night.

SLEEP-TRIAD-OF-HEALTH

Sleep re-balances the ‘Triad of Health’

Good health is a triad balanced across the mind (mental / emotional), body (structural and neuromuscular) and energy production (biochemical) – a balancing act performed nightly by sleep.

When we get a good night’s sleep:

  • We prime the emotional brain properly
  • Balanced brain chemicals , reduce inflammation and prime the immune system
  • Create a positive and energetic state of mind
  • Overcome depression, irritability and mood swings
  • Enhance judgment, brain function and clear thinking
  • Change the metabolic impact of exercise and nutrition

The result is a feeling of mental and physical energy and an internal psychological push called motivation. Without it we get depressed, fatigued and sick.

The Triad of Health is knocked out of balance by excessive stress, such as:

  1. Mental stress such as worry, anxiety, shock , work/financial pressure, and relationship issues
  2. Biochemical stress such as poor diet, over exposure to environmental toxins, dehydration, drugs and unhealthy bacteria and viruses
  3. Structural stress such as physical trauma, head injuries, car accident, birth trauma, poorly developed posture

“The only time you escape stress is during sleep, when your body is repaired and prepared for the next day’s challenges. Without enough sleep, your sleep debt compounds interest in the form of accumulating stress – the number one cause of illness and disease”.

Based on over 65000 published scientific research in the last decade…
Sleep deprivation is linked to:
  • Depression / Anxiety
  • Reduced work performance
  • Reduce cognitive function / Poor concentration
  • Impotence / Low sex drive
  • Behavioural abnormality / Aggressions
  • Increased chance of road accidents (1 in 6)
  • Increased chance of falling asleep behind the wheel (1 in 3)
  • Linked to fatigue and poor immunity
  • Stroke & heart attacks – 50%
  • Poor Metabolism, Diabetes and Obesity
  • Poor school performance and Hyperactivity in children
Sleep Disorders in Medical Illnesses
Many medical illnesses are associated with disturbances of sleep.
  • Patients with chronic lung disease may experience low oxygen levels at night that disturb sleep.
  • Patients with asthma may develop wheezing or shortness of breath at night, usually in the early morning hours.
  • Patients with heart failure may develop abnormal breathing at night, which disturbs sleep much in the way that sleep apnea does.
  • Patients with Parkinson’s or other neurological diseases may develop disturbed sleep.
  • 65% of People with kidney disease develop Obstructive sleep Apnoea
“Unless people are educated to be aware of symptoms emerging in their waking lives, they can have a serious health problem without even knowing it.”

Sleep is necessary for detoxification, immunity, tissue repair, regeneration, emotional balancing and most importantly for recuperation of the brain from the day’s activities. Dr. Reza Samvats Natural Sleep Health Clinics address sleep problems from a unique, wholistic approach that steers away from drugs and pills. In fact, Dr Samvat’s Natural Sleep Clinics (there are currently four in Australia) are the only ones of their kind, approaching sleep medicine from a totally natural perspective.

These Natural Sleep Disorder Clinics can assist in every aspect of sleep – from sleep apnea and snoring, through to insomnia, restless leg syndrome, poor quality sleep, sleep disturbance and much more.  Dr. Samvats research and treatment also addresses sleep issues in children.  Says Dr Samvat: “Sleep stimulates growth, proper brain development, memory, alertness and strengthens the immune system – so it follows that sleep is a very important part of childhood.”

Sleep Help an Introduction
One third of Australians are dangerously sleep-deprived.
Since
1910, the amount of sleep we get has steadily decreased by a massive 22 per cent, dropping from nine hours to just seven hours per night.
This is a ’sleeping time bomb’ in terms of health. Every hour of lost sleep goes on your body’s tab as if you’re using a life-long credit card. This is called ’sleep debt’.
In its most extreme case, a 44-year-old man sleeping one hour per night was wracked with pain, became delusional after four months, couldn’t walk, his memory failed and he suffered hallucinations where his dreams invaded reality. Within a year, he was dead.
Snoring Help an Introduction
Unfortunately snoring is no laughing matter.
Snoring is the most common sleep disorder, classified as Upper Airway Obstructive disorder(UAOD) , afflicting almost half the population of Australian men (44%) and one in three Australian women (30%).That’s seven million Australians!
During sleep, the muscles of the soft palate, uvula at the back of the throat and larynx, lose their muscle tone, relax, and begin vibrating against the back of the throat or the base of the tongue, when breathing in and out, creating the snoring noise. Snoring can happen when nose-breathing or mouth-breathing.
Snoring can also occur when you have a stuffy nose from a cold or sinusitis, or when falling asleep in an upright position (for example, in a chair) because the jaw relaxes and drops open. Snoring reduces oxygen supply to the brain and body tissues, triggering an arousal within the brain. It is the oxygen deprivation and repetitious arousals that are the risk factors for poor health.
There is growing evidence that the primary cause of snoring is caused by poor integration within certain areas of the brain, thereby classifying, surgery and more than 200 mechanical devices in the market to reduce the noise, as band aid solutions.
Sleep Apnea an Introduction
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is where breathing stops between 10-60 seconds up to 300 times every night, causing sleep and oxygen deprivation.
OSA increases the chances of stroke, heart disease and heart attack, as well as the chances of work or driving accidents, and can lead to personal problems ranging from apparent psychotic symptoms through to hearing loss and sexual impotence.
Sleep Apnea – Apnea, a Greek word meaning ‘without breath’ (also spelt ‘apnea’), is a common sleep disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep.
Clinically, apnea is defined as cessation of breath lasting at least ten seconds.
Apnea occurs when soft tissue at the back of the throat collapses, closing the airways and constricting breathing during sleep, up to 300 times per night. As shown in the diagram above each time there is an apnea episodes, the oxygen drops below the normal level. As each episode continue, the oxygen keeps dropping down further and can drop down as low as 60% or lower. Considering 94-100% oxygenation is an ideal level, such drop put a lot of stress on the body, heart and the brain.

Restless Leg SyndromeRestless Leg  Syndrome Treatment

Restless leg syndrome (RLS) is a sleep and movement disorder characterized by unpleasant feelings in the legs, which causes an urge to move in order to relieve the symptoms. This leads to difficulty falling sleep. As the result many people with RLS experience chronic insomnia and daytime sleepiness. Only one in five ever get diagnosed due to poor knowledge within the health professionals’ in regards to sleep medicine.

RLS in children can be mistaken with growing pains. Even though there is no such thing as “growing pain.

Growing pains and RLS have shown to be related and not limited to:

  • Magnesium insufficiency. Magnesium is required for muscular relaxation. Its level is the lowest at around 3 am
  • Spinal misalignment at lumbar region
  • Poor cerebellum integration leading to excess lactic acid build up in the muscles
  • Poor higher center of the brain integration
  • Copper toxicity
  • Prolong stress
  • Compromised neurological reflexes
